It’s been a while since I updated the site, for many reasons, and the obvious one being that I have been incredibly busy. But that is no excuse! So apologies.
The album is getting mastered after a longer than expected mixing process (horray!), again due to myself and Brendan being busy as hell. But it’s there. The artwork has been complete, and the credits have been written.
But another reason for my absence is due to the fact that I’ve been falling in and out of love with music for the last couple of months. I didn’t want to share any of this on my site, or bore you guys with it. I almost feel like I have to keep a veil over what’s been going on music-wise but I’m totally honest about my music, and where it’s at. I would LOVE to be able to do this job full time, and tour and gig, but the reality is that’s only available to select few. Any musician out there will empathise with me about the motivational reasons for playing music. It’s surely not for the love of making money, it’s more about the “moments” that can be had, and also creating the connection with the listener. That’s what motivates me and 99% of my friends, and that’s what keeps me going. It’s the connection.
Everything I have done to date has been self funded, and it’s a massive balancing act between earning and spending time on something that may or may not offer a return at some point. The album took longer than expected for this very reason. I needed to work, to pay the studios and people involved. I don’t have a label (nor did I want a label to be involved co-incidentally) to cover the costs, and figured if in the event that something “happened” with the new album, I’d be in a better position to reap the rewards than a label who ultimately do not care for my music, only the bottom line. Everyone knows that. Don’t they?
So what now? What’s are my next steps? I’m not giving up. That’s for sure. When I receive the mastered tracks in the next week or two – I’ll sit down and maybe even ask a few of you for advice on how to get these tracks out to people who might like to help me gain more of a following. I plan on doing alot of shows both here and back in Ireland and hoping for one of those rare occasions where people might like the music, and pass it on to a few friends. My goal for this album? Is purely to create more connections with people and to get it out there to as many ears as possible.
It’s an exciting time. It’s taken longer to come around than I/you may have expected, and I’ve hit a few speed bumps along the way, but I’ve also made some amazing friends, and have some amazing stories to tell too. I’ve learned that making the album isn’t so much about the product at the end. It’s about the journey it takes to get there. Which in a way feeds back into the title “Estuary”. I dreamt up the songs at the source, and have taken them down stream towards the unknown.
Here’s hoping the seas not too choppy!
Thanks for all your support.
